Abstract
This project explores the limitations of smart wristbands through an in-depth analysis of the Xiaomi Smart Band 9. Combining market research with user surveys and interviews, we proposed design improvements for enhanced functionality and user satisfaction for the targeted audience.

Research Phase
Secondary Research
Market Analysis: Studied Xiaomi’s brand philosophy, competitive landscape, and user demographics.
Product Audit: Evaluated features (activity tracking, heart rate monitoring) and limitations (no built-in GPS, screen responsiveness issues).
User Reviews: Gathered feedback from Reddit, GSMArena, and TechRadar to understand real-world frustrations.
Primary Research
Conducted survey with 62 respondents and user interviews with Xiaomi Smart Band 9 owners to determine overall experience, pain points, and improvement suggestions. Physical retail store interviews with staff were also conducted to collect further information regarding customer feedback.

Proposed Solution
Modern and sleek, screen-less wristband
Longer battery life, reduced damage risk, lower cost.

Ability to detach and reattach sensor module to different parts of a body.
Exploration
Explored different concepts via sketching.



App Concept
I designed a conceptual app meant to be synced with the smart wristband, featuring an informative home page, intuitive dashboards for heart rate, activity data, community, and goals page. The design balanced functionality with minimal aesthetics, using color-coded visuals for quick insights.
